From Passion to Leadership: My Business Evolution
When I first embarked on my business journey in 2017, my baby was only a few months old, and I saw a vision for what I wanted to create. I knew I wanted to make a difference, but I had no idea where this journey would take me. I vividly remember the moment I walked into the library, filled with excitement and nerves, and registered my business name. That small step—getting my ABN, printing my first business cards—felt monumental. It was the beginning of what would become a deeply fulfilling career in leadership, personal development, and consulting.
Taking the Leap (2017-2018)
Starting Above and Beyond Early Childhood Consulting was both thrilling and terrifying. I built my first website, launched a Facebook page, and eagerly handed out my business cards to anyone who would take one. Soon after, I secured my first customers, validating the dream I had worked so hard to bring to life.
In 2018, I expanded my impact in a way that was personal and deeply meaningful. I hosted the book launch for Hey Mamma, Breathe: You Are Doing Amazing, a project designed to support new mothers. This passion for connection also led me to partner with Amy, a fellow mum from my mothers’ group, to create Coffee and Connect—a safe space for new mums to gather, share, and support one another. Running face-to-face workshops became a powerful way to grow my business and build a community.
Navigating Change (2020)
Like so many businesses, mine was profoundly impacted by COVID-19. I had to adapt quickly, moving my business online and embracing Zoom as my new workspace. At first, it was daunting, but I soon realised that this shift allowed me to expand my reach beyond what I had imagined. I started working with a college in marketing, refining my skills in digital engagement.
One of the most pivotal moments came when I spoke at an International Women’s Day luncheon just before the pandemic hit. It was in that moment that I truly saw the power of sharing my story and expertise with others.
Growth and Transformation (2021-2023)
The years that followed were ones of incredible growth. I hosted three successful conferences, solidifying my presence as a leader in my field. But I wanted more—I craved deeper knowledge, greater impact, and the ability to inspire lasting change.
So, I took another leap: I enrolled in a Master of Leadership program. The experience was transformative, challenging me to think bigger, refine my skills, and reimagine the scope of my work. In October 2023, I proudly graduated, and with that milestone, Stella Stead Consulting was born.
This was a defining moment—I was no longer just running a business; I was leading a movement in leadership, management, and professional development.
Expanding Horizons (2025)
This year has been one of expansion and new opportunities. I began tutoring for the Business and Law School at the University of Wollongong, further deepening my expertise in leadership and business development.
Hosting three successful Women’s Leadership Retreats has been a highlight, providing a space for women to grow, connect, and step into their leadership potential. Another milestone was Ignite Your Vision 2025, an in-person event designed to empower individuals to take charge of their future.
And, of course, as my business has evolved, so has my brand—I recently had professional photos taken to elevate my personal presence and ensure that my message reflects the strong, empowered leadership I strive to inspire in others.
The Future and Beyond
As I look ahead, I feel a renewed sense of purpose. Speaking invitations have been increasing, allowing me to reach even more people with my message. This year, I will be speaking at International Women’s Day 2025, a full-circle moment that reminds me of how far I’ve come since that first event years ago.
Additionally, I’m thrilled to be enrolled as a speaker at She Speaks Wollongong, a platform dedicated to amplifying women’s voices and stories. It’s humbling and exciting to know that my journey is still unfolding, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me next.
Final Thoughts
If my journey has taught me anything, it’s this: growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone. From that first visit to the library in 2017 to speaking on major stages in 2025, every milestone has been built on the foundation of courage, resilience, and an unwavering belief in my purpose.
